She looked so grown up in her new 'work' clothes that we bought before hand. She had to wear black and she doesn't normally except for school. Anyway, she looked about 19 and completely ready for work.
I am so proud of her work ethic, she has worked very hard, lots of cleaning and scrubbing but it didn't put her off at all! Every evening she would come home and be excited about returning the following day, although by the end of the week she was quite exhausted, 9 to 5 is such a long day compared to the time she usually spends at school. The company have been so good to her, giving her lots of varied jobs to do and taking her to the flower markets and on deliveries to posh places! The staff were all so friendly too, they put her at ease and my shy baby blossomed and became a confident flower, it has been lovely to see.
I had a fantastic week with my first born. Small Sprog was at school camp and Lovely man was working away so we had some quality girly time together eating, drinking 'mocktails' and watching films. We met for lunch too (her request) and took sandwiches to the 'Downs', sitting in the sun watching the world go by. I shall always remember our time shared together, it was rare and precious.

What a beautiful shop to work in and in a lovely part of Bristol, so close to The Downs.
I am so pleased that Tall Girl had such a positive experience there and hope that she will have gained so many things from doing that.
Lovely photos.

Good that she got such varied work experience and such supportive staff. I hear so many stories about so-called work experience that's just pointless, badly-paid drudgery.
All sounds so wonderful, for all involved. Well done TG, especially.
9 - 5 is something of a shock when you try it for the first time. However, you soon become depressingly used to it!
What a great job to have! I am not sure what 'work experience' is but I guess it's like a short internship? I am glad she had such a good experience. The flower market must have been wonderful!
I remember my son going off to work experience, in a specialist typesetters that a friend of mine used to own and run (he's retired now). However he now is heading for 22 and apart from that and a few weeks on a teacher experience at a school that is it for work! He will be the eternal student I think!
Glad it all went well, and quality girly time is definitely to be treasured - here it seemed to happen in exam years, cos she was at home more x
I used to work in a flower shop - and that one looks gorgeous. Tends to be a bit bloody cold in winter though! My son will be in Bristol from October! Lx
So glad the two of you had such a wonderful week! Is "work experience" something that is required for school? I remember the first job my youngest got when she was 16, as a hostess at a restaurant where her older sister worked. I wasn't sure it was going to work out, but it turned out to be the best thing ever for her--she became more self-confident and outgoing than she had ever been before. I always thought teenagers should be able to enjoy school and all its activities as much as possible, but the right job experience can also teach them a lot. Glad Tall Girl's was also a positive experience.
Yes Scargosun and Rose, work experience is like a week long internship. Most 15 year olds do a week or more during their year at school.
Family Affairs - at Uni?
Rare and precious indeed - and to be treasured.
