New Beginings

Tall Girl starts senior school tomorrow. She is feeling nervous and excited. I am feeling excited for her but sad for myself. A new era is beginning. I am entrusting her to a new set of adults. People who will influence her whom I shall never really get to know (unlike junior school where there is one teacher and many opportunities for contact) She is catching the school bus at 7.30 tomorrow morning. She has never traveled on her own. I can feel my bonds to her stretching further than before. Painfully extending across space. Knowing that things are changing and I can't stop time. People say, when they're babies, that you should make the most of them. The time goes so quickly, they say, and they're right. It just didn't seem like it at the time. And now I find myself wishing for all that time back, I want to do it all again. But life's not like that. I must look forward. She has to grow and I know she will be beautiful. She is my wonderful rose and her blooming is about to begin. Good luck Tall Girl. You are much loved.

Suburbia, This is the eternal dilemma of all mothers: you want them to grow up and become independent and happy, responsible adults, but you still want to be able to hold them close and protect them from the world. I cried when each of my children started school, when they graduated from high school, and when I left them on campus for their first year of college. It's not easy.

Good luck to Tall Girl; I'm sure she will be fine.

Awwww, how exciting for Tall Girl, how bitter sweet for you.

HullabaMummy was gutted yesterday when OS raced ahead into the school playground, dumped his bag in his line, and whizzed off to find friends, not to be seen until the bell rang.

No need for reassuring mummies (or L-plate Step Dads). Just a boy confident in his own turf.

At least YS needed mummy coattails to hang too till he too was swallowed up by school.

Suburbia~I wish all of you a happy beginning. I agree it is hard to let them grow because it gets faster and faster with each passing year. I hope that you are feeling better! Have a Great Week!

Good luck Tall Girl....... hope all went well. It is not easy being a Mum, is it? Not at any age.

Good Luck Tall Girl!

She'll be fine, though I know it's hard to let go as a Mum.

Does she know she has to stay at school until she's 17 now?

The best of luck to Tall Girl, it is a big step and I hope she will have lots of wonderful inspiring teachers. I hope you have coped with the day.

Late checking in...sorry, chaos reigns here...how did the day go? The bus ride, the new school, the new friends?

Here I was just a couple of days ago holding the baby as she slept and tearing up when it struck me that her first birthday is next month. I don't want time to stop but slowing down just a touch would be nice.

Once they go to Secondary School the time just flies, it seems like moments since my not so tall girl started Yr7 now she is a yr 9 and they are mentioning options, GCSE's etc.

They seem to rush through school lately - no time to just enjoy learning. That's how it appears to me anyhow, she would say that the terms drag and the days are way too long!

What are you worried about, Miss? She's not joining a cathedral girls' choir is she?

Now that it is the day after tomorrow I trust that things went OK.

I hope that your back is better.

Denise, that made me laugh. Sorry didn't manage ABC Wed, things just a bit hectic here!

Rose, you're so sweet. Thank you.

Hi Bobo, it does feel, as we move further into the term, that they are indeed, 'swallowed up' :(

Hi Susan, nice to see you.

Liz I was fine because I was at work and busy although I was in tears when writing this post (silly me!)

Hi Louise, yes, I loved my secondary too. It was all just one great social for me!

Hi Maggie, you're right, though you seem to have had your fair share recently.

That's funny Akelamalu, I haven't told her yet! What's worse is that by the time Small Sprog starts they will have made it 18.

Thanks Starnitesky

Dori, it really does seem like it was only yesterday that I was in your shoes.

Welcome ms wiz. Time goes so quickly, or is it because we're getting older?!

Nice to see you can bass 1, would that be a bad thing then?!

Cheshire Wife, it went very well thank you unlike the back situation.
