Post holiday post!

It was a spectacularly, stormy sea that waited for us last weekend in Cornwall, with waves buffeting the rocks with such a force that we could only marvel that the cliffs could withstand the battering over and over again.

When we arrived at the car park in Tintagel, with a 10 minute walk along a cliff path in mind, there was a rebellion in the back. The wind was a bit nippy (freezing actually) and both children said they would rather stay in the car! Even a brief mention of King Arthur wasn't sufficient to get them out into the fresh air. However after much cajoling, and probably some threats too, we all descended the path to the sea. (Come to think of it, I think a promise of ice cream played a part somewhere along the way!)

Tintagel was a magical place, rugged and weather beaten, but the sea was the star of the show. Small Sprog was in awe! He sat on the steps at the bottom of castle and watched and watched the waves spraying high up into the air. The power was absorbing and hypnotizing all at the same time.

After a while he turned to me and said "This is one of the best days of my life!"

Now he'd come to mention it, it was one of mine too

  1. Small sprog is a real sweetie, isn't he?

I love the sea, but it's so cold at the moment, I certainly wouldn't have got out of the car for an icecream!

I'm glad that you had such a good day!

  2. I'm glad you had such a wonderful time. Is this the castle where King Arthur was supposed to have lived? I remember Glastonbury, but I don't remember the names of all the other places associated with him. No wonder Small Sprog was entranced with this place!

  3. I would love to have been there. One of the great draw backs of Florida is the extreme shortage of castles.
    No....Disney doesn't count!

  4. OH I just LOVE Tintagel. My late cousin once lived there & we had some good holidays. Rough and rugged.Dramatic seas.
Small Sprog's remarks are so similar to my grandsons' who don't like the thought of coming out in the cold & who have to be cajolled & bribed to venture on a trip that involves walking or roughing life a bit.
They ALWAYS end up having a good time!

  6. Awwww, boys and castles and the wild wild sea. Sounds even better than an episode of Merlin.

He's such a darling. You are very blessed.

I am intrigued to learn more about this place now, and I love the sea, so I am all the more curious!

  9. Hi, yes there are very few places more inspiring than where stormy seas meet rugged cliffs.

I can sit and watch the waves for hours - always have done since I was a young child.

  10. It's a real fairy-tale setting, isn't it? Never fails to work it's magic, either (as in this case)!

  12. No way!!! You went to Tintagel?? Thats 6 miles from me-and my kids go to school there!

We could have met up for a coffee or a beer or summat!

And how lovely that your son should say that.

And at least the weather was better than it was in the summer!
