Exasperated in Suburbia

I 'd just arrived home form work this afternoon around 2pm when the phone rang. It was my mother.
"You've just caught me!" I said, mostly because I thought she might be quicker if she realised I had only just walked through the door, though sadly I was wrong. She had her ''strident'' voice on!
"It says in my diary that you're home at 12.30!" She states
Well you know, sometimes things just don't turn out how you think they should. I hate being predictable, but what I hate more is my mother keeping tabs on me! The conversation deteriorated form there!

PS. Thank You to Cheshire Wife, who gave me this beautiful award recently :)

  1. My sympathies - I have a very very grumpy demanding father!

  3. Obviously I'm saying nothing

    Nothing at all

    Not a dot

Oh yes, no mummy issues here

    Oh no no no no

    None

    Really

    Zero

I'm a grown man, after all

    An adult!

... still, I'm noticing you're not admitting what you were doing for that hour and a half. Hmmmm?

  4. Hmmm...caller ID is a wonderful thing! Ah, Adventures With Mum--is she aware that your timetable is merely a "guideline" and not something set in stone?

  5. Oooh! I would have found that irritating. None of my family members are like that, but my neighbours used to be. I can't stand ANYONE knowing more about me than I do.

  6. I felt really mean on Tuesday. I was in the middle of cooking dinner when the phone rang, I saw it was my MIL's number. No I didn't ignore it I answered it after a moment's hesitation and the thought I hope this won't take long. As I picked up the phone I got a chorus of Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you..... from my MIL and FIL!

Now you know why I felt mean. :(

  7. Lindsay, thank you for your sympathies!

Bobo, what ARE you implying? ;)

    Maggie, it got worse!

Dori, no I don't think so!

No Mean Mom, neither do I (and I don't know that much anyway!!)

Akelamalu, yep! And I always feel mean and guilt ridden for being annoyed with her.

  8. She writes what time you'll be home in her diary? :-O No! No! No! No! No! I'd have been cross. I might even have had a tantrum.

  9. look on the bright side. she didn't call the police and report you as missing. it took me precisely fifteen minutes to do that with my little tiger.

  10. That's funny Kitty!! Maybe I'd feel better if I had had a tantrum!!

Grit, sorry to hear you lost Tiger (though I trust all was well) However, there is quite and age difference between the two of us ;)

  11. Oh dear, that's a pain that your mum is still keeping such a close eye on you. I managed to get my mum under control fairly early in life and tame her interfering and protective tendencies. Nowadays it's generally a very satisfactory live-and-let-live relationship. But some mums just can't conquer the mothering habit.

  12. I am the Angel on your shoulder telling you to spice it up... live it up... shake it up... and step out of your schedule just a little bit, once in a while.

Go on... do something spontaneous and fun... and enjoy every exciting minute of it!

  15. I vote with Dori--I check caller I.D. before I answer ANY phone call! Or maybe you could tell her to change her diary entry to read that you're not home until 7 PM; that would give you some time to yourself:)

  16. Did your mum at any time say, “And what time do you call this young lady?”

  17. Congratulations on your lovely award. I would send you one too if i knew how to do it.

You've really hit it on the head about mothers! Somehow you're always wrong and they;re right. even when they're not.

  19. Hi Letty, I do love her very much,it's just that sometimes she DRIVES ME MAD!!

Hi Jenny, if you want to pass an award on you just tell someone to come and fetch it, then they can copy it into their computer and then paste it to their blog!

Worrier, she didn't quite say that, but the tone was there!

Rose, if only I had an ID checker:)

Saz, yes I coveted this one too, I love the colours.

Glad you've solved the problem Nick! I just hope I'm not like it to mine!

    Scarlett, don't tempt me ;)

  20. Wow, what was your Mum's previous employment? She sounds extremely thorough!

  21. I used to have similar problems with my mother until I decided that she would only get to know what she needed to know and no more.

  22. Tempt you?

I am pushing you and pulling you out the door!

    Go!

  24. I read this post earlier and have been thinking about it for a while. Perhaps you could make a game out of it (but only with yourself). You could imagine that you are a spy and you could come up with some fiendish responses to her questions. See what you get away with! (Might be fun...within reason, of course!)

Otherwise I detect the beginnings of a sitcom....fancy writing it all down?
