Poor Small Sprog

Small Sprog has extra maths tuition. He hates maths. I'm not entirely sure putting him through more of it does any good at all but I feel I have to try something.

Anyway, his lesson used to be on a Monday night, but today was his first session after the holidays and it's now on a Wednesday.

We arrived home from school and he went straight out to play with the oldest of the nit children, from down the road, whilst Tall girl and I attacked her science homework.

When he came in later, just as I was half way through cooking tea, and said he was tired, something suddenly clicked! I looked at the clock. Ten past five. Oh no, his lesson was supposed to start at 5.

"Quick" I shout "Put your shoes on and get into the car!"The children look puzzled. I babble on about time and changes and maths, shove a buiscuit into Small Sprogs hand, and generally flap about a bit! They both seem to get the picture!

We all rush around, trying to find folders and shutting windows before piling into the car and driving the mile or so to his tutor. We arrive just as she is phoning to see where I am.

I got out of the car, slightly disheveled, to take him safely to the door and apologised profusely. Then I realised that she was staring at my feet. She looked puzzled. I looked down. In the hurry to get there, and after shouting instructions to the children to get ready, I had forgotten to put on my own shoes! Ooops! Sometimes I wonder why I'm let out at all!

  1. LOL, I once went to school with two different shoes on after youngest daughter missed the bus and I had to rush around to take her school first.

My sympathy to Small Sprog; I can certainly empathize. I was very good at math in school, but that was ...oh, lots of years ago and I've forgotten it all. Last week I had to substitute for the math teacher in Algebra II. After finally figuring out x and y coordinates, my brain started to fry when I got to "functions." Thank goodness I'm in an English class this week!:)

  3. I've gone out in slippers before! (Not very far!)

Small Sprog has my sympathy as I have always hated maths & had a problem with it!

  4. I loathed maths at school. Still do in fact. I had to have extra tuition and it still took me three attempts to get my maths O level. Got it in the end though!

  5. Hooray. Someone else like me.
Once picked Eldest up from his rather smart school when he was about 9, when realised I had Husband's AWFUL tan shoe slip ons (I threw these frights away soon after) which I had slipped on while putting out the washing before school pick up. SO SO awful. Huge tan shoes with skirt. God, I am blushing just remembering all those looks I got!

  6. He might not like maths, but he'll like it even less if he ends up in a job where he's defeated by basic mathematical problems! Quite right to keep him at it until he's caught up.

And I bet the tutor's seen a lot worse than missing shoes!

  8. This sounds a pretty typical MUM-MOMENT

I once went to teach with one black and one brown shoe on. I used to get dressed in the semi-dark.
High school begins at 7:30 in many places in the US.
Most of the children were too polite to mention it.
    All best wishes.

  9. Yes, my mum often came to collect me in her slippers! I havent done that Yet!

I'm glad kids are encouraged to have maths tuition these days. It makes it such a more friendlier subject than that hard cold thing it used to be xxxx

  10. Yep....sounds like me. LOL. I can't remember a thing nowdays, luckily people now realise I have to be reminded about EVERYTHING. Somedays I can't even remember if it's a school day or not, and they only have one day off a week anyway!
    Must surely be stress related.

  12. I read this the other day, but didn't have time to comment!

It made me laugh though ;0D

My ex boss from a few years back now, was a lovely lady, but very forgetful. She went to a top level meeting once to give a presentation - and as she walked into the room - she wondered why she was limping.

Only to find on looking down at her feet, she had one flat driving shoe on, and one high heeled shoe!

    ;0D

    love from Letty xxxxx

ps tell Small Sprog - I am useless at maths, and I still survived!! So far - until someone asks me a life and death question about 'how many men it will take to dig a trench' blah blah blah.......

  13. My son has extra maths tuition too and yes, we forgot lesson number 2 - we realised about 2 hours later - so no shoeless driving for me just a red face and grovelling phone call!!

  14. Oh I know that situation well. In the deep thoes of the menopause I looked at my feet when shoping and I was out in my slippers. I felt 80 and decrepit!

And now I look at your word verification and it says fatso - what a bloody cheek, it can see me.

  15. That's a relief, I thought it was only me that did things like forget shoes. Hubby reckons I'll forget my own name soon.
