Anyway, I was itching to tell Mum all about it, so after she texted me this evening I said I'd give her a ring back. The call went something like this:
Me: Hello
Mum: Did you get my text?
Me: Yes, texted you back saying I'd ring you
Mum: I only just texted you
Me: Yes, I know. Did you have a good weekend?
At this point she told me about the concert she'd been to and then tried to bring the conversation to a close.
Me: I had a good weekend...
I was ready to launch into the details, when she said 'Yes thank you' and rang off!
I think it must have been time for Eastenders.
Sometimes I don't know why I bother, really I don't!
Such is life!
ReplyDeleteI must say I love e-mail
and hate the phone because I like to choose what time I chat
but I will always make time for my daughter!
Something happens to some mothers as they get older. They seem to get completely self-absorbed and oblivious even to what their own children are doing. Jenny's mum is just the same.
ReplyDeleteOh dear..... bit of an anticlimax.
ReplyDeleteNuts in May
It was a lovely weekend. What about that sun at last!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to find your posts are so upbeat these days and you seem to be enjoying life.
ReplyDeleteI think some parents transmogrify into self-centred people when they get older and the trivia of their lives outweigh by far the importance of what is happening to their children. My MIL is the same. She will spend ages describing a phone conversation with someone else then ring off before you we have time to say anything of any importance.
Sometimes people do things that like that without evening thinking...it's so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteOh, and there is an award for you over at mine :-)

The insensivity of mothers frightens me sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good one. xxx
You wait - she'll now call you just when you want to go somewhere, or watch something etc. and she'll expect you to give her your undevided attention...
ReplyDeleteLike during Wimbledon fortnight - it was a gag in our family that you could tell Mum anything during that time and she'd just say... "Really that's nice... did you see that rally!"
:-)
I bet it would be a different story if you were ever abrupt with her for a TV show! My mother is exactly the same about Corrie.
ReplyDeleteNever mind, you told us and we listened. :)
ReplyDeleteSod's law - we usually can't get them OFF the phone!
ReplyDeleteHold onto your weekend! It is more important that YOU know about it than anyone else. :)
ReplyDeleteMy children know better than to try and talk to me when the Archers are on!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. She missed a good conversation, it sounds like.

I'm glad that you had a wonderful time with your friend, though! Isn't it wonderful to have sister friends like that who will love no matter what. Just wonderful. :D
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
ooooooooooooh my sainted Ma In Law is just like this.........either it is some programme like Strictly Come Dancing, or else she is thinking of her phone bill.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I actually "don't bother"!!!!!!
lotsaluv, Letty xxxxx tho so glad you had a great time with a lovely friend.
how weird! I hope you managed to tell her later on. Stories like that need to be shared.
ReplyDeleteyou sound in a better place my friend...safe behind your own front door can be very soothing...and kind on the heart...

My kids know they'd better not call me when "American Idol" is on:)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had a good weekend; true friends like this are worth their weight in gold.
It probably was Eastenders or something like that, glad you had a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh, but at least you still have her with you. In just a few days it will be 21 years since I lost my mother. Once they're gone, you begin to realize what 'forever' means.
ReplyDeleteso glad you had a good weekend...a good stress relief ! old friends are so dear aren't they!
ReplyDeleteThat's a classic!
