Bedtime games.

We play a game at bedtime, Small Sprog and me. He is snuggled down in bed and I kiss him and say 'I love you'.
He says he loves me back.
I say 'I love you all the world'.
He says he loves me more.
I say 'I love you all the universe'.
All the time I am waiting, and we are both giggling, it can go on for quite a while and then he says, very quickly (we are both well practiced in this) ' I love you more than you love me, full stop, exclamation mark, no returns to me!'
This means he has won! He loves me more than I love him and I can't beat that because of all the 'charms' he adds to the end of the sentence, the extra bits, commas, stars, full stops, whatever he chooses today. If I get in with the sentence first he adds another 'charm' on the end so that he can 'override' it!!

So, he loves me more than I love him? If only he could know how much I loved him, would his little heart be big enough to contain so much love? I think it almost might be.

PS. I took the photo of the sunset last Thursday while we were away camping just to prove we did have some good weather!

  2. Excellent photographer, too, by the looks of that photo! You could make great cards out of them xx

  3. What a sweet bedtime ritual! Small Sprog will always remember this, I'm sure, and will grow up knowing how much he is loved.
My grandchildren always say to their mother, "I love you to the moon and back."
Enjoy this special time with him!

  4. That reminds me of my youngest son when he was little. I used to say to both my boys "I love you up to the sky, right past the moon, past the stars and all the world" - little one piped up "and 16" (the largest number he knew at the time) and so it stuck! I now say the whole thing to my grandchildren.

  5. There was a night not too long ago when I heard crying coming from upstairs. I went up expecting monsters under the bed only to be told in a very tearful toddler voice that I had forgotten to say, "I love you more" in response to his little, "I love you." Sigh.
Those tender moments sort of negate the other not-so-tender moments, don't they?

"I love you..(beat beat) I love you, (beat beat))

  7. Have you read, um, I can't remember? It's about two, um, bears, I think. And they try to outdo each other in how much they love one another.
Guess how much I love you? Maybe. I'm going to have look that up on Amazon now to check ...

  8. Hi Liz, yes it's bunnies I think and that was probably how it all started but it sort of grew!

Sherry, yes they do grow fast and we have to savour the moments don't we?

Dori, yes you could forgive them anything at that moment (well almost!)

    Thanks Rose

Hi Suzysoo, I hadn't thought of cards!

  9. The book that Liz is thinking of is "Guess how much I love you" and it's 2 rabbits; a parent rabbit and a child rabbit.

If you don't have it, you must get it; it'd be perfect for you and Small Sprog. I thought of it too, as soon as I read this. It is a staple of childhood.
