I formulated a plan in my head. I needed to be quiet. I needed to move with the stealth that he himself had used when, earlier on, he had manoeuvred himself into his current position. The children were already asleep, I didn't want to frighten them.
I moved slowly from my bed. Anything could disturb him, and once he was on the move I was lost.
I crept downstairs, located the hoover, took the hose connection and returned upstairs with it pointing at the ready. Last time I had tried fly spray, to which it had seemed immune. I certainly wasn't trying that method again! On the landing I plugged in the Dyson, crept into my room, pointed the hose at the lampshade, pressed the 'on' button and swooosh.... Sucked the moth into the abyss! I could hear his great wings flapping, ewwww! One more blast of suction and he was done for.
Phew!
Now I'm sorry if you are fond of moths, and I know some are quite rare. I love nature myself. I will catch spiders and release them, bees and other insects too but when it comes to moths, it's them or me I can tell you. And in the past it's not always me that wins. I had a run in with one last year that was immune to fly spray. That was a Very Nasty Business...
It is my birthday today. I am a year older. I am hoping that one day I will grow out of my moth and butterfly phobia!
While you're here please help yourself to cake (mind the crumbs on the carpet, I've just moved to a new house you know!)
What are you scared of?

25 ... hmm were you a teenage Mum then... ;-)
My daughter has a bizarre fear of frogs - we all have odd things we hate don't we
Happy birthday!
And so with you on the moth thing. I have a real phobia. Can't live with them can't live with them.
I don't like moths either. I gather there's quite an epidemic of them in England, they're destroying people's clothes, carpets, you name it. So you're right to get rid of them.
But how can you have a butterfly-phobia? Such beautiful creatures! Is it just the fluttering that disturbs you?
Mmm, fabulous cake, it tastes of oranges and marzipan. Oh rats, I've just knocked half the slice on the floor....
Oh My Goodness. It may have been MY moth! (did you see my post?)
Sorry you had to kill it!
Thought at first you were talking about a rat on the loose! Maybe that would be my fear. A rat invasion. I'm not scared of pet ones!
Happy Birthday. Delicious cake. Shame its not real!

I thought you had burglars! LOL
Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns. :)
Oh dear, sub. I thought from the title that this would be about some misadventure on the part of your sprog. And here it's only a small, innocent, and quite unassuming moth. Good heaven's woman, get a grip!
Now that you're 29, I hope you're having a grand time. Next year is 30, which is the old 15. You're getting younger by turns. Well done, miss, or, ah, um, Ms.
Happy birthday and well done! Moths can be annoying in a fluttery sort of way. But not as bad as the HUGE fly that seems to have taken up residence in our bathroom.
Like you - terrified of moths and birds that get in the house! As they come in, I leave and husband has to battle with the fluttering objects!
Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Suburbia! You and youngest grandson share the same day to celebrate, so I always have cake on your birthday:)
You know I love butterflies and most moths (though not in the house!). But we all have our phobias--my grown-up son gets spooked by spiders, and I have never liked worms. I've learned in recent years not to jump up screaming when I uncover an earthworm while gardening:)
Furtheron, didn't see the number on the cake until I'd posted the pic! Would rather be 25 than 47!
Nick, yes it's the fluttering.
There's a dustpan and brush under the sink if you will please...
;-)
Hi Maggie, it was a dull brown (and massive!) not pretty like yours, but I have seen some like that recently.
Rob, 29? if only!
I never noticed the 25 either. I think I just saw it as an S with a reverse S beside it.
Just read your other post first and realised that we actually share a birthday - and a regular habit of hoovering up moths. Though I have to do that for aspie boy who is terrified of all bugs. Happy Birthday!
