Canal holiday

We are off on a canal boat for the weekend, everyone is excited. Tall Girl has an idea that she will lie out on the roof in shorts and T-shirt but the weather man says it's unlikely! Small Sprog has plans to drag his net along in the water and gather whatever he can catch in a bucket. He also has plans for a rainy day and has packed the game called 'Risk'. Tall Girl refuses to play it with him, Lovely Man has shown some enthusiasm. Lovely Man is already on the boat with his family. By the time we get there there should be bunting around the boat, which I can't wait to see. Photos to follow hopefully.

On the way home in the car tonight the children were talking about their plans. Tall Girl said she thought Small Sprog would look like a 'k'nome with his fishing net.
" 'k'nome?" I said as she had emphasised the 'k' sound at the beginning "do you mean gnome?"
She looked sheepish "I forget which silent letter it is!" She wailed while Small Sprog and I laughed until tears ran down our faces- the clue being in the title 'silent letter'! Poor Tall Girl. Dyslexia is a way of life around here, isn't it strange that she should think about the spelling when she says a word. It's a fascinating way of being, if sometimes just a little bit strange!

What are you doing for the jubilee?

Poor TG. Not an ounce of sympathy in you or SS. But the I suppose you have been living with her dyslexia for so long that your would be utterly morose if you didn't laugh. Fair enough.

Do send us the pix of the boat and the trip. Especially the pic of why SS dredged up with his net. Hope it as fun.

For the jubilee? Old-fashioned Church picnic. I think it might be fun.

Well the anti-royalist that is Mrs F wouldn't countenance any extravagant show of monarchy based jingoism so no too much really... Going to see a Coldplay gig on Saturday - AA convention Sunday .... looking like that'll be very wet! So much for the pinic in the park idea I'd heard muted for the lunch session...

I'm off all next week!!! Yippeee! Daugther has last GCSE today... Yippeee... Son is coming home late next week Yipppeeee - might actually go and pick him up I'll see how the plans work out...

All good really... I need a break from work to reset the cogs to correct perspective setting I feel

Funnily enough I "spell" every word in my head as I speak - unfortunately I cannot do the same with numbers!

Being on a barge amidst the jubilee madness sounds lovely. Have a wonderful time.

I am taking photos for the town council, of the festivities here - for a souvenir newspaper they are producing. Hope it doesn't rain! x

Have a wonderful time!
Hope the knome catches lots of interesting things and that nobody falls in!

I'm just chilling out this Jubilee!

She must mean the type of knome that uses a kanoe. Or a kanutcracker.

I have no interest at all in the jubilee so I won't be doing anything regally-related, just enjoying some extra days off. The only crown I'm interested in is the Rose and Crown.

A lovely post. I know what the year of Jubilee in the Hebrew faith--not sure that is what you are referring to.

Oh I love it!

Oh but for goodness sake I do not love your robot-tester!

And i hope you had a lovely time - and decent weather - on the boat. I've always wanted to go on a canal boat but not play Risk! Pictionary is much more fun!

Liz, I didn't know I had a Robot Tester! I shall investigate!

We had a lovely, if very wet walk along the canal on Sunday and passed by many boats, pondered a canal holiday. I think we would like it.
Hope you saw lots and had many chances to play games.
I think it must be awesome to sleep on the water so close to nature, and as a child i adored family holidays with lots of people so whats not to like?

I live in Australia and very much fond of river cruising. I also spent my last holidays in Europe as Barge Holidays.
