Rabbit or Turkey, the choice is yours!

I took the darn rabbit to the vets again this morning. Well actually, I took her to the dentist first. I wasn't quite concentrating properly and when I parked outside the dentist surgery, Tall Girl, who always enjoys a good vets visit, asked what we were doing there! I suddenly realised I should be at the vets instead, which is only two streets away, so off we dashed - drove very carefully because the white fluffy thing slips about in her box- and arrived for her appointment in the nick of time.

During a vets visit there is always a glimmer of hope that the current problem from which she is suffering won't have a cure. However there is no end to modern veterinary medicine it seems! After having paid for a course of 3 injections recently for the mite problem, which was making her fur drop out in clumps and which haven't quite done the trick, the vet now informed me that I need some drops of stuff to put behind her ears. Probably as expensive as Channel no.5 but not quite as fragrant! Anyway I have to pick it up tomorrow, yet another trip, and pay him then. You wouldn't believe how much that rabbit has cost over the last 18 months!

Then, the nit children arrived. More medical traumas in store, I thought, as the nit boy cheerfully announced that he has a skin infection! A skin infection? OMG he's the one giving it to the rabbit after all!

So what next for 2009? Plague and pestilence in abundance in BS9! Happy New Year by the way, just in case I expire before tomorrow!

LMAO, being a mummy is tiring forgetting things is easily done. I will never forge the hasty trip to the eye pavilion because I put drops meant for OS's right eye into his left eye.

May 2009 be pestilence free.

Nice one!

Do you have insurance for your rabbit? I keep wondering about taking it out for George but that's usually just after I've paid a huge amount and i think, 'well it's not worth it now; i'll leave it a while.'

Oh, hope you haven't been 'syning'. Or at least not in public.

They make great pies, you know!

Oh vets bills are extortionate! My son has four dogs and has to take out a second mortgage every time there's something wrong with one of them.

Apologies from the veterinary professsion...
I have always wondered about rabbits... these days they are just as much of a pet as any cat or dog... and people pay a lot for their treatment, and vaccinations etc. although many do consider it annoying and a waste of money. I always feel there is not the same expectation of responsibility attached to owning one ( or any smaller furry) that getting a cat or dog requires. "You mean they get sick too??"

I can say it is a vets obligation to tell you all available forms of treatment. It is the owner's right to decide how far to continue with it!
Sorry the rabbit is ill - hope the drops help... been trying to work out what is wrong and what all the treatments are...
Happy New year

Happy New Year to you and yours

Can you ask the vet what, exactly, your vet needs, and then get it from a pet place more cheaply? I don't know about you, but our vets seem to double the price of everything! I can get the worming tablets, flea drop stuff, etc. for the cat much cheaper from other places.

Hope you all stay healthy for 2009!

That was so funny!
I really do know how much it costs for an animal at the vets as I used to have 3 cats!
For a horrible minute, when I read your post heading,I thought there was going to be turkey & rabbit pie for supper.
He looks so lovely though...........
Keep him away from the nit kids! You got me scratching again!

Oh poor Suburbia. You know, the phrase "bunny boiler" could be a good thing, in some circumstances.

I was so worried when I saw your post title on my sidebar! I'm glad to know Ms. Rabbit won't be the topic of your next culinary column:)
Maybe the vet has something that would work for the nit children as well.

oh Blimey Suburbia, our rabbit Nigel cost us a fortune in his short lifetime (7 years). Claws manicured regularly, a bad tooth, tics in his fur, and lots of other things i've probably blocked out.

however, he was a lovely little boy if a bit cosseted.

Every single time the drama queen cat goes to the vet I pray for a truly terminal illness, and yet always leave disappointed with a fairly healthy cat. Who managed to eat(and regurgitate)half the Christmas tree!

Anyway--here's to a plague free 2009!! May you find joy, peace and contentment. Or at least have a healthy family and pets! :D

I think you should take the Moroccan attitude to pets - love them but do not pay a fortune.
Our cat Mimi was the only one in the medina ever to sport one of those cool white plastic neck halos.
Visiting dog seems healthy........thank heavens.
Hope the rabbit's skin condition improves.
Do you realise there is a world of rabbit blogs out there.
Try the qipapers first - on my side bar
really super people

oh god, I am so with you here.

We had a rabbit long ago, cost me a bloody fortune.

Then we went on holiday with youngest Sprog, and Ma In Law came to stay to look after the oldest two.

Of course bloody Rabbit had something wrong with it, and Ma In Law refused to let my Eldest Daughter take it to the vets, "because Mummy would not want to come home to a huge vet's bill".

Actually, to be honest, I am an animal lover, so I would willingly have paid it.

I digress, so bloody rabbit popped his clogs, and lay in his hutch all frozen and dead. Eldest daughter whose rabbit it was, had fit of hysterics, and swore vengeance to her grandma.......

We came home to the biggest crisis possibly since Nero fiddled while Rome burned.

Also to add insult to injury, my Parents called over to help with Rabbit Death, while we were away, and stopped to have "tea" with Grandma, and my Two had to "be good" while all this went on, and poor Thumper (as he was named so originally, poor thing) was left stiff and cold in a carrier bag by the front door.

Wow, I do not miss the Rabbit days!

Letty ;0)
