Where has she gone?

When dear Saz suggested I write something for her Teen Blog I declined, mostly because my two lovelies are 9 and 12 years old. Not quite teens, no, not even nearly teens. I have a whole year to go yet. Tall Girl will be thirteen next November, no need to worry surely? She is still all sweetness and light, that's not about to end yet is it? Or is it? Hmm, think again!

It is the school holidays. We have just had a week away. Now you may think a weeks holiday with another family which contained your best friend would be a joyous occasion? Think again.

My oldest lovely has become hormonal (poor thing) and it is showing (poor me!!) What has happened? Where has she gone? Her beautiful hair has become grease ridden and lanky and her mood is worse!

The last straw was on our final day. Everyone gathered around the breakfast table, in various states of dress, some still in PJ's, others fully dressed, and some -who will be nameless- unwashed! All the children were full of chatter, except, except....... my pre-teen. There she was, PJ bottoms and a hoodie on, hood up, partly screening her scowling face! She sat mute, bottom lip almost touching the table.

And what dreadful thing could have happened to have brought on this disturbing behaviour I hear you ask?

There was no Marmite!

She spent several hours after that scrunched up on a sofa with her hood still up and her Nintendo DS bleeping and playing tuneless elevator music.

There is so much to look forward to in the school holidays. Oh Joy!

PS This post will be published on 7th August at Mad Manic Mamas if you haven't had a look yet, you don't know what you have missed!

oh god, you brought back so many memories of the pre teen female era!

My daughter is 30 now, but from the time she was about 11 to the time she was 19 and left home.......it was an awful time.

Sorry to be a party pooper here, I am sure there will be better days, but somehow I don't envy you Suburbia!!

Mind you it never finishes, youngest son has just broken up with long term girlfriend, and I am picking up the pieces still and he is 21!

Once a parent, a parent for life it seems. Joy!

I have not blogged much lately due to having lots of visitors, will try to remedy this soon, and am off to check the other blog you at Mad Manic Mamas!

with much sympathy, Letty xx

Well, excuse me, but absence of Marmite is a very serious situation and taking umbrage is to be expected. There again, any sensible pre-teen would have stashed emergency supplies in her bedroom.

I hope the hormone surge doesn't cause too much mayhem....

oh meant to add, they do "come back", it takes a while, but she is lovely now! My daughter I mean! She has been lovely for quite a few years, so don't give up hope.

I did not mean to depress you with my previous comments.

love Letty xx

We've got this coming, too! We'll have to compare notes - and coping strategies!

Oh yes, she's definitely a pre-teen:) I remember those days so well and am so glad to be through with them. Well, except the youngest, who is 23, still acts like the moody teenager half the time:)

Lack of Marmite can alter a person's personality!!!! Too much can bring on Marmitosis...... too little and it you get Marmitelessness. Can be quite serious!!!!!

My granddson is just 13 and I have noticed he is getting mighty awkward.
Oh, I am glad I haven't got the responsibility!
I don't envy you in that respect.
Must go over to your friend's blog for more teenage capers and relax knowing that I've been there, done it and now...... am escaping it. Phew.

Holidays just beginning to sink in.

Bottom lip pouted out when it's not going her way? Now I wonder where that one came from?

:-)

Bravo Sierra Fiver....

Don't go there... mine is being a bit of a pain - or she was for part of last night... two things, 1 - son's birthday so she felt out of the spotlight no doubt, 2 - excited about up coming trip and cant' wait.

Mine has a year on yours and yes suddenly a lot happens that I don't understand!

Still she found something productive to do - scanning in a load of old photos that she thought were funny... comments like "God Dad you look young in this one!" "Yes love that was before you were born!"

Oho, the familiar drooping bottom lip! My, have you got some fun times in store ...Child One has just emerged from this and keeps helping me round the house, only for Child Two to develop The Lip. Arghhh!

Oh happy days! What a perfect picture you gave us. I could just see her. Never mind, it only lasts ... several years!

She's normal and the good news is that she WILL come out of this hormonal mess.

The bad news? Normally about year 10.
