Off again!

Over two weeks into the school holidays and I am childless once more. This time I nearly cried when they left, if Mum hadn't been there too then perhaps I would have, I couldn't cry in front of her, it would have made her cry too! It has been an emotional time, there have been the most wonderful moments, mixed with job and health worries, life is never dull in suburbia.

We had a brilliant week away, a proper family holiday, it felt easy and free and we all agreed the simple pleasures were the best; we fed ducks, paddled in clear shallow streams and skimmed stones in the river. We laughed, a lot. We enjoyed each other and played silly games. We ate ice cream and sweets until our teeth ached! We were happy. I will always remember that holiday, it is the most normal and stable time that I have spent for as long as I can remember. Sometimes normal is a great relief!

The days after our return were filled with visiting various friends before they went on their holidays, the time has passed so quickly, all of it good.

But the inevitable came. After managing to spend nearly 4 weeks on the trot with my children, I had to let them go. It was harder this time. We were out of the routine of every other weekend with their dad. I will not see them now for over two weeks and by the time they return, the holidays will be nearly over.

And all the time I had with them, the whole four weeks, I wanted to say 'Isn't this good? Couldn't we just do this forever? Can't we just go on and on?' But of course they need to see their father, it's only right, yet they seemed so settled at home with me, I find myself wishing...

How have you spent your summer so far?

It's inevitable that you are childless for two weeks so enjoy it and don't feel guilty. :)

Your holiday all together sounds blissful.
It would be lovely if it could continue but I'm sure the children need their father.
And sometimes space is good
Gosh, don't I sound boring!
Do hope you have an excellent time. Hugs from NY

It take a lot of blending in the world to make the 'family mix' anymore, doesn't it? Enjoy your time away...

Nothing wrong with wanting it all - perfectly sane in fact. I'm glad you've has such an idyllic time with your kids... look on the bright side; there'll be lots more times like that for you to enjoy too!

I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time with the kids! It was lovely to read and the happiness you describe just jumps off the page :-)

Try to focus on the positives and enjoy your 'you' time.

We've had a lot of guests so I'm now enjoying having the place back to ourselves, looking forward to doing a bit of painting and getting organised for our holiday in September.

Just enjoy your week in York and forget about the kids. They'll be back in due course and ready for more simple pleasures.

Hoping you enjoy your stay in York. I always enjoy visiting there. Reminds me a bit of Bath and Colchester as all were Roman settlements.
I am sure the children will be coping. It is surprising how adaptable they are and they fit into other people's patterns without question. My own family are doing just that.

I am taking each day as it comes........ will do little spontaneous trips out and will see friends and have the grandchildren part of the week. I will chill out a good deal of the time!

Take advantage of this "childless" week and enjoy every moment of it! It's always hard to let them go, but it will be good for all of you to have some time to yourselves. I'm sure when my youngest daughter goes back to school at the end of the month, I'll be glad to have a neater house once again:) And yet, I'm enjoying every minute she's here. Older Daughter was here all weekend, too, so our house was full of activity--I'm exhausted, but happy!

I'm sorry I've not been 'around' for a while....life is very chaotic here at the moment.
My stomach churns at the thought of being away from the children for two weeks but I'm so pleased you have someone to spend that time with.
I hope you are managing to have a lovely relaxing break. X
