Schools out!

Small Sprog crept into bed with me early this morning.
"Mummy, why do we have so much plastic?"
I'm not good at this first thing in the morning!
"I don't know Small Sprog, why do we have so much plastic?"
"No! It's not a joke" He shouts, offended

He has been nominated as an 'Eco Warrior' for his class next term. I obviously need to shape up a bit! But right now it's the school holidays. Am I ready for this?!

PS. Just realised Tall Girl has completed her first term of senior school. Where has that time suddenly gone? She has grown up and changed so much since the beginning of September. She certainly has more 'Attitude'!

I always wonder about the volume of plastic toys. Where do they all come from and where will they all to?

Are you offering an environmental consultancy service from your bed? I have several questions if you are free on Tuesday?

I would do your research before entering into a debate about plastic. There are some who say it's lethal and others who say it's harmless. Unless of course, he's just talking about how much gets chucked out. Then it is shameful.

Ha ha! I would have thought it a joke too.

Daughter is quite ferocious about recycling in our house too! So why do school insist they brink their snack in a clear, disposable plastic bag? Think I may have to make a fuss about that one .......

"Eco Warrior" sounds like quite an honor--I think Small Sprog will fill the job admirably. And when the two of you figure out the answer, I'd like to know, too:)

Hulla, Toys R Us, Early learning centre etc etc! And landfill (but charity shop if you have and eco warrior in the family!)

Expatmum, he's only 8 so I think I'm safe in my ignorance of good v's evil plastic ;)

Working Mum, yes we used to get the double standards thing too!

Rose I'm leaving the research to him!

Scargosun....fab idea :)

Gill he has quite a collection of those sorts of Q's! All designed to wake me up!!

Yes, Daughter was made Eco-rep in her form (yr 8) and for a few days she used a recycled bag for her lunch as a good example. But uncannily she seems to have reverted to a tesco carrier bag (when i can nick them from work).

Its secondary school I find is where it all goes alarmingly fast!

School Holidays in the middle of October?? Your sprog won't be a sprog for very long as your learning with Tall girl! Hope you feel better soon.....

Well, we have a lot of plastic, because it's amazingly useful stuff and because, once we've made it, it's extremely difficult to dispose of! It's not an easy problem to solve, is it? (and certainly not when you've just woken up!) There is an interesting article on the bbc website. If you want to read it, go to the site and search for 'In Defence of Plastic'.

Happy holiday to you. Cornwall weather shouldnt be too bad. Could be cold though.

It is a good question and what did we do before plastic was invented?

Hope you enjoy your break. I am not able to leave a comment on your Paddington Bear post.

Hello, I came here via Blue's new blog as your blog title intrigued me! Living as I do, in suburbia!

And excuse me for being signed in as my dog.......

Your mention in this post about "Where has that time suddenly gone?" made me think.

My eldest "tall girl" will soon be celebrating her 30th birthday next year. And my third sprog, has just left for Uni. The baby of the family.

So been feeling a bit "empty nestish". Time goes so quickly - I cannot believe 30 years have flashed past. It seems only yesterday I had three kids, a girl and two boys, under 10.

I have been listening to the not very well known or much played Abba track called "Slipping Through My Fingers". It says it all!

We used to live near Westonbirt Arboretum, so your photo brought back memories as well.

Thank you.

of Jeannie and Marvin fame, link on Blue's, although no longer actively blogging - at the moment........
