Almost Advent

It's been a busy weekend with visitors, bearing gifts of the birthday variety (belatedly for Tall Girl), and staying overnight, long walks, sociable eating and all this with preparations for Christmas mixed in!!

Advent calendars are primed and ready to go. The nativity set (hand sewn by my mum) has been located after much searching - why do I always put it somewhere different every year? The children (who are also primed and ready to go!) will put it out tomorrow. Last year we had the Three Wise Men standing in line with a couple of Storm Troupers, and at one point the Shepherds were hanging off the stable roof. I wonder what mysterious visitors will descend upon our nativity scene this year?!

The visitors brought, not only Tall Girls birthday present, but some cheese! Stinking Bishop no less. Fans of Wallace and Grommet may recognise the name of the cheese but if you've never tasted it then be truly reassured that its name is completely warranted! I do quite like a bit of smelly cheese now and again but this was just too much to bare! Our visitors were relatives so I felt I could ask them to take the stinking cheese away again!I'm sure there is a faint aroma of it around still, even though they've been gone a while. Apparently, their in laws had brought the same piece of cheese over to them on Friday night. Perhaps it will be one of those presents which circulates through the family for years! Eewww!!

The Christmas CD has been full blast in the kitchen again, with Small Sprog dancing around in delight. It is his favourite time of year, he loves the giving, as well as the receiving. He has been making something for daddy, bless him, he loves to give surprises. However he also loves practical jokes too! You can never be quite sure what's inside! Hmm, what would you rather receive!

Oh yes, I've come across Stinking Bishop and you're right, it truly stinks. No wonder you were keen to get shot of it. If someone has mice they could feed it to the mice, though even they would probably take one sniff and refuse.

Eeeewwwwwww - what's that pong on your blog this evening? :-O Smells like someone's smelly feet.

I think your small sprog is like my No.2. We've had the Crazy Frog Christmas CD at full blast (deep joy) and he too loves the whole giving and receiving thing.

Jenny, I'd forgotton about your cheese quest! I certainly wouldn't recomend this for your party, it smells like something dead has crawled under the floor boards!

Only like mild cheeses so Stinking Bishop sounds too strong for me.

I think the Storm Troopers make a great addition to the Nativity scene:) Son #2 is now 36 (I was a very, very young mother, LOL) and still likes Star Wars toys.

I'll pass on the stinky cheese, though!

Husband is partial to "Beaufort" cheese which he buys in Waitrose. It is a hard cheese looking not unlike cheddar. I can smell it as soon as Husband carries it hidden amongst the shopping - it is truly revolting. Another smell I cannot abide is cooking kippers. Husband is also partial to those and one year on Christmas day I made him cook kippers on the BBQ outside!

I love cheese but have never tried Stinking Bishop. It can’t be as bad as it sounds!!

I remember little plastic men interloping on our nativity too...those were the days. Teenager just as excited as ever about Christmas though- it's sweet.

How funny reading about Stinking Bishop, over the weekend I saw some in a local deli, and it was marked half price!!

I wonder why?

Small Sprog sounds delightful, he reminds me so much by description of my two boys when they were younger.

Happy days!

love and light,
Letty ;0)

ps glad to see you are getting in the Christmas spirit!

I love strong cheese but not too smelly - I'll take your word about Stinking Bishop and not bother getting any! ;)

Love Christmas CDs!! I've just made a Christmas playlist on Dizzler.com so I can play Christmas songs in my lessons in the last week of term.

My daughter and her little girl (4 years) have begun their Christmas preparations and are well into the swing of it already, the whole bit - the Nativity, Christmas poems, music, Advent - a wonderful time of the year. I love it too - it's so magical for children.

Hope you and Small Sprog have loads of fun.

I made an advent calender for Caz a couple of years ago that you could put full size chocolates in, not used it this year as it costs a fortune to fill
