Bringing home the bacon

Small Sprog loves his food. He'll eat almost anything, (in contrast to his rather fussy sister) and is proud of it! We had tears last week though, someone had eaten the last piece of fruit cake, his favourite, (Tall Girl won't touch it with a barge pole, it just might contain fruit, that would be far too risky!!), but poor Small Sprogs tears were very real.

On Sunday morning we had a sort of brunch type breakfast, Small Sprog wanted poached egg on toast with bacon. There was no bacon. He was upset! I realised I was not 'meeting his needs' on the culinary front!! So later on Sunday I went to work on three fruit cakes! I hasten to add these were not all for Small Sprog. Tall Girl has a school fair and a Girl Guide 'do' this week and both events require homemade cake, so a whole batch was measured and mixed and fairly thrown together to create Small Sprog heaven.

When they were cooked and set on the worktop to cool the house was full of a wonderful aroma. Small Sprog sauntered into the kitchen and viewed the cake line up with a satisfied grin. He prodded one with a small finger, "Mmmm, fruit cake" He says, almost drooling "My favourite". Then, as he leaves the room........he shouts.............. "Shame about the bacon!" and runs off!
If I didn't know that he couldn't, I would have sworn I saw him winking!

PS. Photo, as proof for BS5!

Top Sprogisms for a Tuesday! You are awfully good to knock out three cakes like that.

Ha Ha..... I loved this!
Hope he eats his fill of fruit cake and I really hope you get him some bacon, poor lad! LOL!
It s funny how its always the eldest child in a family that is the picky one! The younger ones seem to eat anything! (I our family anyway!)

He is such a star!

Sad that he, like Younger Son here, has such a poor mother when it comes to keeping food supplies up.

My No.2 is the fussy one - drives me nuts! I keep telling myself he'll grow out of it, but when? I thought you were going to say small sprog took a slice from each cake ... his life wouldn't have been worth living, would it? x

Oh, bad mummy! You remembered the fruit cake, but forgot the bacon!

Small Sprog is cheeky but cute! I like him!

Middle son used to sulk for days, if we dropped into a cafe for a meal and they didn't have sausage and chips on the menu! Even now, at 23, he'll traipse in and out of several cafes, until he can find one that's offering a cooked breakfast. A sandwich just won't do!

I like your Small Sprog tales, he reminds me of my middle boy so much, now a very Tall Boy in his mid twenties.

Isn't it great too to have at least one who eats almost anything!

Your tale has cheered me up this morning for I had a bad day yesterday.

Letty ;0)

I have a wonderful fruit cake recipe which is the easiest and quickest ever but tastes wonderful.

I made it for Son No 2 a few weeks back to take back to Uni, he tells me he eats it for breakfast and it fills him up until lunchtime!

I think it was Mean Mom yesterday who commented that she'd like to borrow Small Sprog for a few days. He does make life interesting:) My kids are good at laying guilt trips on me, too, even more so now that they're older.
I think I can smell the fruitcake over here...yummy.

No bacon? What sort of a mother are you? LOL

Sounds like small sprog has an excellent appetite. Why is it they always want the one thing you haven't got?
